"Reunion Blues cases are where my favorite guitars go whenever they leave the studio. I wouldn't trust them in anything else."
"As a working musician I can’t say enough about Reunion Blues gig bags. I’ve got a gig tonight and will be using this Continental Voyager double gig bag that holds my acoustic and electric. It’s light, comfy on my shoulders, built for the road, (flight-checkable/carry-on) and has plenty of storage. Primo kit. Thanks to the Reunion Blues fam for making a difference!"
A renowned guitarist, songwriter, composer and international touring artist, Paul Masvidal is best known as co-founder and frontman of Cynic, the critically acclaimed progressive rock group with a fanatically devoted following.
Masvidal's professional career began in 1991 when he and Cynic drummer Sean Reinert were recruited by Death's Chuck Schuldiner to record that band's landmark death-metal album, Human. Two years later saw the release of Cynic's self-assured debut – Focus. Heralded by critics and fans alike as a work of dizzying brilliance, Focus wove elements of metal, progressive rock and jazz fusion into a bold new sound that challenged listeners as it defied genre restrictions.
The group reunited in 2008 after a 13-year break to record Traced In Air, their comeback opus. In his review, New York Times music critic Ben Ratliff wrote that Cynic "should be understood not so much alongside any metal bands but along with the radical harmonic progressives in the last 45 years of pop and jazz: composers like Milton Nascimento, the Beach Boys or Pat Metheny."
Beyond Cynic — Paul's work spans film, television, experimental solo projects, all noted in exploration and sound. He wrote the main title for the Emmy nominated NBC teen series Operation Junkyard and has scored series for H2, National Geographic, Bravo, ABC and PBS. Paul also worked as a session guitarist for Carsey Werner sitcoms That 70's Show and 3rd Rock from the Sun. In 2014, Masvidal produced and played guitar on actor Jim Carrey's spiritually reflective children's Book and accompanying Soundtrack, How Roland Rolls.
Cynic has released conceptual EPs: Re-Traced (2010) and Carbon-Based Anatomy (2011). Pitchfork music critic Hank Shteamer raved in his review of Carbon-Based Anatomy: "The title track is a perfectly paced stunner ... Cynic sounds fully liberated, not just from their metal past but from any aesthetic concern other than assembling a great song." Cynic's third full-length album, Kindly Bent to Free Us, released in 2014, was hailed by PROG Magazine as "an album that transcends all the limitations of genre and era... There are few albums which can claim such a remarkable hold." The album rose to No. 4 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart in Feb. 2014 and was No. 1 on CMJ's Loud Rock Chart the following month.
Paul performs master classes at various music academies and music stores, teaching guitar techniques, songwriting and the creative process. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Fast forward to September 2025 — Kiesel Guitars proudly introduced the Paul Masvidal Signature Series MASVIDALIEN MIII, the debut Kiesel signature model from the legendary guitarist and composer known for his work with Cynic, Death, Æon Spoke, and Mythical Human Vessel.
Built in Kiesel's California factory, the MIII is a Hybrid Guitar designed for strength, resonance, and playability — not defined by subtraction but by the possibilities it opens.
In Masvidal's words — "Creating the Masvidalien MIII with Jeff and the Kiesel family at their Southern California factory was educational and eye-opening. Every step taught me something new, from experimenting with strength and resonance in the neck to noticing the subtle details that make a guitar feel alive against the body. Even obstacles opened new doors, leading to the discovery of a pickup voicing that surprised us with its sound. Working with Jeff was a unique experience. I could bring in ideas from my perspective, and he would ground them in what was possible, or reveal a new path I had not considered. The back and forth shaped the guitar in ways I could not have reached alone.”
"Through it all, I learned the value of patience, of showing up and letting the instrument itself guide the process. What emerged is both personal and universal, a guitar designed for playability, balance, and substance. Guitars evolve as musicians and styles evolve, so this work is like a living organism that will keep expanding. These instruments honor the classic reference points left by the great master luthiers while embracing the infinite possibilities ahead. For me, the MIII is a symbol of that evolution.”
To mark the launch, Masvidal filmed a performance video (watch below) that captures the spirit of the MIII and California. Shot with spontaneous, off-the-cuff moments to reflect the true feel of the instrument, the video also includes b-roll footage that Masvidal describes as his love letter to San Francisco, the city where he now lives. For Masvidal, the guitar and film together celebrate not only the evolution of the instrument but also the inspiration of California itself.
