Born in Southern California, Jef Villaluna begun his musical journey at age 10 when he first picked up guitar. Initially learning by ear, he later joined Jazz ensemble in Middle School. In 2008, he created a YouTube account under the name JussJef and began doing acoustic guitar covers. After receiving positive feedback with his videos reaching millions of views and gaining over 30,000 subscribers, he mustered up the courage to audition for P Diddy's Making His Band in 2009 making it to the semi-finals. Although he did not win the final position of guitarist, his musical journey was far from over. Since then he has shared the stage with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Jhene Aiko, Jennifer Lopez, The Game, and many more. As of 2017, he is the guitarist for Khalid.
