"In rehearsal for JT Taylor (Kool and the gang). Huge shout out to Reunion Blues for making the best gig bags I know. I beat these things up all around the world, and they're still somehow in great condition!!!"
Hanan was born to play music. He knew it from very early on and never stopped to look back."After we moved to New Jersey from Israel I was the new kid. I didn't have a lot of friends, but I did have a lot of free time." Hanan spent that time playing guitar, keys, drums and whatever other instrument he could lay his hands on. At the age of 19, recommended by icons such as George Benson and Preston Glass, he enrolled in the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and finished youngest of his class. During his time at Purchase, Hanan also moved up in the New York studio scene, becoming staff first engineer at Unique Recording Studios as well as freelancing in almost every other major recording facility in the city.
In these studios Hanan usually performed double duties as an engineer as well as a musician. He went on to perform with many of the acts as well. Some of the notable people Hanan got to work with are Anthony Hamilton, Take 6, Leela James, Gladys Knight, Kanye West, Nas, DMX, Jadakiss, Lalah Hathaway, BB King, Roy Hargrove, The Funk Brothers, Keisha Cole and many others. These experiences molded him and provided valuable lessons and insight to continue his path.
An impromptu meeting at Montreux Jazz Festival, would lead to him starting work on his own music. "I met my future manager backstage, and she asked if I also wrote my own material. I said yes, but when she wanted to hear some of it, I told her that it was all in my head. She put me on a regimen of making song demos, and four months later I found myself on a plane to Berlin, Germany where we began working on my debut album."
While in Europe, besides recording, Hanan had the opportunity of opening up for many great artists, including Jamie Cullum, Jeff Beck, Simply Red, ZZ Top, Chris Isaac and many more. "It was quite the adventure! I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be an amazing experience!"
Since moving back, Hanan is currently working on his own material and is the guitar player in the Alicia Keys Band.
